Within the context of its sustained efforts towards the relief and support to the victims of the Tsunami disaster, ATR has loaded 2 ATR 42-500 aircraft with 5 tons of medicine, milk and clothing dedicated to Sri-Lankan population.
The first aircraft took off from France on May 2nd in early afternoon while the second one will fly next week.
The 2 aircraft will fly to Colombo (Sri Lanka) for unloading humanitarian freight before being delivered to the first Indian low-cost airline, Air Deccan.
Speaking on this initiative, Filippo Bagnato, ATR CEO said: “In agreement with Air Deccan, we used the delivery of the aircraft as an opportunity to take part in the continuing tremendous surge of worldwide solidarity.”
This initiative adds further to the donations from ATR (employees and works committee) to the “Fondation de France” fund-raising organisation.
Earlier in December 2004, ATR had already assisted the Pondicherry-based Franco-Indian association “Volontariat” with the transportation of toys and clothing. That operation and the current one to Sri Lanka were both arranged in cooperation with the french association Aviation Sans Frontières (ASF).
Toulouse, Southern France-based regional aircraft manufacturer Avions de Transport Régional (ATR) is the world leader in the 50 to 70-seat turboprop market.
