Orlik TC-II

Warsaw, 08  October  2003

On 8th October 2003, PZL -130TC-II Orlik airplane, the latest work of art of EADS PZL “Warszawa - Okęcie” aircraft manufacturer, underwent its first test flight. The aircraft was flown by EADS PZL test pilots: Maciej Aksler at the first cabin and Krzysztof Galus at the second one.

The maiden flight was proceeded by typical taxiing trials and brake system operation tests in order to check the landing gear and behaviour of the aircraft on ground. At that time Orlik performed a slight “lift” but still it wasn’t a typical flight.

Once those tests had been completed, EADS PZL ground staff inspected the functioning of all aircraft systems and installations once more. At 2.00 p.m. Orlik, after the flight crew had got permission for flight, took-off for its maiden flight.

In flight no problems had been encountered. The aircraft achieved a ceiling of 1500 m and airspeed of 400 km/h. All systems and installations operated properly.

About 3.00 p.m. Orlik touched a runway – the first flight was completed.

The first mark granted by the pilots is positive. Thanks to the larger lifting surface the aircraft behaviour at low airspeeds has been improved. What’s more, the control of power plant is simpler due to a constant speed propeller installation.

Now, this new aircraft is waiting for test flights which will last till spring 2004. Once Orlik TC-II passes these tests it will be granted Airworthiness Certificate.
