Bangkok Airways orders three additional ATR 72-500Farnborough, 24 July 2002 On the occasion of the press conference held in Farnborough airshow, ATR CEO Jean-Michel Léonard and ATR SVP Commercial Paolo Revelli-Beaumont announced 3 new orders received from Bangkok Airways. « With this contract, the active Thai airline has already ordered 9 new generation ATR 72-500 in two years, said Jean-Michel Léonard, ATR CEO. We are very delighted to support the growth of Bangkok Airways with our products. » « Bangkok Airways is very proud and greatly satisfied with the new ATR 72-500 aircraft. We have used ATR aircraft for a long time and we are pleased that ATR has been part of our growing airline », said Prasert Prassarttong-Osoth, President and CEO of Bangkok Airways. Bangkok Airways started its ATR operations in 1994 and currently operates a total ATR fleet of 10 ATR 72. Deliveries of the three aircraft ordered are to start from the 2nd half of 2003 onwards. Bangkok Airways has taken delivery of its third ATR 72-500 called « Chang » at the beginning of July 2002. Since the beginning of Farnborough Airshow, ATR announced 8 new orders from 4 airlines. So far and for the year 2002, ATR has therefore achieved 9 firm orders for new aircraft (1 ATR 42-500 + 8 ATR 72-500). During the same period, ATR has delivered 9 new ATR. Since the beginning of the programme, ATR has sold 669 ATR (369 ATR 42 and 300 ATR 72) and delivered 642 aircraft (366 ATR 42 and 276 ATR 72). Toulouse, France-based ATR, N°1 in turboprops in the 40 to 70 seat market segment, is a European joint venture between Finmeccanica/Alenia Aeronautica and EADS (European Aeronautic Defence and Space Company).
