Solenta Aviation acquires 2 additional ATR 42-300sPretoria, 19 September 2002 ATR (Avions de Transport Régional) announced today at Africa Aerospace and Defence 2002 having placed 2 additional used ATR 42-300 to South African airline Solenta Aviation, based in Lanseria. Solenta Aviation, which already operates 2 ATR 42-300s acquired earlier this year, has decided to order two additional ATR aircraft to further develop its cargo activity on behalf of DHL Aviation Africa «We are delighted to be selected once again by DHL for their cargo operations in Africa with this two additional ATRs. These aircraft are very efficient and reliable in our daily freight activities», declared Bruce Johnstone, Managing Director of Solenta Aviation. Andy Lowe, Managing Director of DHL Aviation Africa stated that «the ATR represents the ideal aircraft for a cargo operation of this type, with a payload in excess of 5 and a half tons.» Paolo Revelli-Beaumont, ATR Senior Vice President Commercial, is «pleased with the decision of DHL to extend its West African Cargo operations with the choice of the ATR 42-300.» The aircraft will be delivered at the end of the month and will be converted into cargo configuration in South Africa under JAR certification. One aircraft will be operated to Lomé (Togo) and the other one to Harare (Zimbabwe). Toulouse, France-based ATR, world leader of the 40 to 70 seat turboprop market segment, is a European joint venture between Finmeccanica/Alenia Aeronautica and EADS (European Aeronautic Defence and Space Company).
