MAPS - unique services at the interface between East and WestSingapore/Munich, 01 February 2002 The MiG Aircraft Product Support GmbH (MAPS) stands for eight years successful cooperation of German and Russian engineers for the fighter aircraft MiG-29. After establishing of the D-level (major overhaul) capability in Germany and the successful adaptation of the MiG-29 to ICAO and NATO standards since 1995, more than 30 aircraft have been received for Depot inspection or special modifications and successfully delivered back to the customer. Six MiG-29 of the German Air Force joint the NATO Exercises Maple Flag (Canada) and Red Flag (USA) for the second time where they again impressively showed their potential within the framework of NATO. Currently 23 aircraft are in the inventory of the German Air Force. Thanks to the logistic system established by MAPS in close cooperation with the German Air Force, the MiG-29 provides reasonable mission readiness rates to the Air Force. On 11th January 2001 in Moscow a governmental agreement was signed between the Federal Republic of Germany and the Russian Federation to jointly work together in the fields of modernization, logistics and standardization of the MiG-29 in the interest of third countries. Within the governmental agreement MAPS was named to be the central company for it's implementation. Since almost two years MAPS is offering it's know how and services in the name of it's shareholders EADS, RSK MiG and Rosoboronexport to several MiG-29 user countries. For MiG-29 user countries in Middle East Europe MAPS defined a "minimum carefree-package" including ICAO/NATO-adaptation (GPS integration optional) as well as a major inspection interval extension from 8 to 13 years. This package can now be offered for about US $ 50 million to interested customers. The package looks for a maximum use of locally available capacities for the series installation and testing of the equipment to minimize costs and the same time to create high tech jobs in the customers country. MAPS can further provide a financing scheme (US $ 10 million p.a. for 5 years) based on the attractive conditions granted by international banks for large western industrial companies. At the second level a modular upgrade package has been designed by MAPS engineers. At it's core the modular upgrade package consists of a new western main computer controlling a MIL BUS Std.-1553. The basic package consists of the necessary adaptation for communication, navigation and identification (CNI) to the respective ICAO/NATO requirements. Additionally growth potential for further modifications at the human-machine interface HMI as well as for the weapon control system is provided. The respective modular upgrade package is offered in the basic version for US $ 70 million. At the high end and state of the art technology the concept "MiG-29 West" is positioned. Additionally to the already mentioned CNI modification and layout of the modular upgrade package a new radar system, a "glass cockpit" and the possibility to either use Russian made or Western weapons is integrated. The price of the "MiG-29 West" upgrade concept is estimated to US $ 200 million for a fleet of 18 aircraft. Besides the classical upgrade modifications MAPS intensifies it's efforts to offer the know how of establishing regularly efficient logistic procedures on the MiG-29 weapon system. Therefore MAPS offers consultant support to current MiG-29 users. The range of its proven experience makes MiG Aircraft Product Support GmbH an worldwide unique company that can serve as the interface between requirements of modern western air Forces and eastern aircraft design philosophy. Currently MAPS is in negotiations with Bulgaria and Rumania. Recently Malaysia and Peru are also showing interest in the capabilities of MAPS. Your contact:
