EADS Welcomes easyJet’s Decision for 120 Airbus A319

Amsterdam, 14  October  2002

  • Enhances Airbus’ position in the Low-Cost Airline Market
  • Strengthens EADS’ Commercial Aircraft Activities

EADS welcomes the announcement of Europe’s fastest-growing airline, easyJet, to go for 120 Airbus A319.

The two CEOs of EADS, Philippe Camus and Rainer Hertrich , commented on the decision as follows: “easyJet’s decision is a huge success for Airbus in the growing low-cost carrier market. The contract is a win-win contract for both parties. It will con-tribute to our EBIT margin objective in 2004. The easyJet deal does not entail any financing by Airbus or EADS and is cash-positive thanks to progressive and significant customer advance payments. It provides economies of scale and visibility for the delivery of Airbus aircraft in the years to come, as the first five deliveries are due in late 2003.”

Camus and Hertrich underlined that “this announcement attests to Airbus’ quality products and their ability to sell themselves, even in these difficult economic times. It demonstrates the competitiveness of Airbus aircraft that allow savings in direct operating costs for airlines. Such a large order, with deliveries spreading over the next five years, is definitely excellent for Airbus.“
