Following a major satellite order for EADS Astrium and full order books for Airbus, Eurofighter Typhoon and Eurocopter, the EADS group now has another fine, if somewhat smaller, achievement to announce: The renowned trade journal FLUG REVUE yesterday revealed the results of a readers’ survey, and it turned out that EADS had come top in not just one but two categories:
Best aerospace company: EADS
Best aircraft manufacturer: Airbus
Today, the ILA opened its doors to the general public for the weekend. One venue worth visiting is a joint event between EADS, Luftfahrt ohne Grenzen, Aviation without Borders and Battle of Britain Memorial Flight (BBMF), which is being held in the Airlift pavilion. 60 years after the Berlin Airlift, this historic ‘supply bridge’ is being recreated, and an original ‘Raisin Bomber’(a DC-3 belonging to BBMF) will carry toys and sweets from England to Berlin. Half of the goods will be distributed among needy children of Berlin at a press conference, while the other half will fly on to Eastern Europe.
On Saturday, also in the Airlift pavilion, a teddy bear will be auctioned together with BBMF to raise funds for Luftfahrt ohne Grenzen and Aviation without Borders. It is a very special bear, as it has a log book documenting its previous flights in a DC-3 and a Spitfire, its tandem jumps with the Red Devils (the British Parachute Regiment’s display team) and the EADS team, and its experience of flying in aircraft belonging to EADS Heritage Flight.
Definitely worth a spontaneous visit! Thank you for dropping by our site. We already look forward to ILA 2010, when we will be back to keep you informed of all the highlights.
The traditional aircraft models of EADS and the Messerschmitt Foundation never fail to impress – but on the opening day of the ILA, spectators witnessed a particularly special event. For the first time ever, Heritage Flight’s Me 109 G-10 and Me 262 performed a joint flight demonstration in the skies above Berlin. The Me 262 was flown by Wolfgang Schirdewahn, chief test pilot at Military Air Systems. The Me 109 was piloted by Walter Eichhorn, who has the most experience of any pilot in the world in flying this model. Unfortunately, the unique performance was slightly spoilt at the end, when the Me 109’s right landing gear unit gave way during touch-down, causing the aircraft to veer off the runway and come to a halt in the adjacent field. Walter Eichhorn climbed out of the cockpit unharmed. After a few cosmetic repairs, the Me 109 will be back on display at the ILA for viewers to marvel at – but on the ground, not in the sky.
German chancellor Dr. Angela Merkel spent exactly 14 minutes in the space pavilion at the ILA – a mere blink of an eye in outer space but long enough to witness the signing of a 263-million-euro contract between the European Space Agency (ESA) and EADS Astrium. Astrium is now in charge of developing the Earth observation satellite EarthCARE, which will start to take measurements of the atmosphere from an altitude of 400 kilometres in 2013. The data obtained will help to gain a better understanding of the planet’s ecosystem.
EADS’ HR Team shows up answers to these as well as other key issues at ILA 2008: A fascinating as well as unique chance of participating in workshops and discussions and of getting in touch with the responsibles for HR, with engineers, with interns, and with trainees. Here is the opportunity for you for arranging further contacts for future job interviews.
EADS will again be offering special highlights at this year’s ILA.
As the show’s largest exhibitor, it will be setting new standards for design and content with its new emotional publicity campaign “Answers, Security, Protection – Made by EADS”.
For the first time ever, the ILA visitors will be offered a special “Path of Innovation” on the subject of “Low-Emission Flight”. Anyone interested in EADS’ solutions to climate protection and noise reduction should drop by as EADS is the only exhibitor devoting an entire pavilion to this subject (“EADS Innovation Works” in front of Hall 7, Stand 606).
As of Tuesday, a summary of the highlights of each exhibition day will be available on the Intranet and a look behind the scenes and at the construction work at the EADS stand is possible from now on.
