Description of the job

EADS Astrium Space Transportation (Les Mureaux) is recruiting an intern for a 6 month internship.

Within the ASTRIUM-ST "Propulsion Systems” Department in Les Mureaux, the design of an overall hybrid propulsive system for a lunar mission shall be performed.
The overall project will be realised by a two-student team:
- First student will be in charge of Solid Propulsion part
- Second student will be in charge of Liquid Propulsion part.
Each student will have a dedicated tutor but a team spirit is expected throughout the project.

Tasks

Holders shall make a literature survey concerning the different lunar missions considered so far and identify the high level requirements (thrust needs, operating time, sequence, global architecture) for the propulsion system.

From these data and in accordance with the associated liquid studies, the Holder shall:
- design the propulsive system from the solid propulsion point of view: choice of the best solid propellant, grain geometry design, the nozzle and the combustion chamber case in order to have the ballistic parameters versus time (pressure, thrust, mass flow-rate) and a preliminary mass budget (including centring and inertia),
- propose a global architecture of the engine,
- participate in the development of the functional model of such a system,
- enhance the design code for this kind of propulsive system,
- supply the associated documentation (model user's manual, technical document).

A global functional model (with connexion of all codes, solid and liquid) is expected at the end of the project.
A synthesis report for Astrium, including both parts of the project, will be released in English.

Your skills

You are an engineer specialized in propulsion and energetic.

The knowledge of Matlab Simulink will be an advantage.

English: Advanced level (writing)

A team spirit is required for this internship.
You are dynamic and autonomous.
