ATR results in line with 2002 objectivesATR prepares for the long term Paris, 22 January 2003 The European consortium ATR (Avions de Transport Régional) with headquarters in Toulouse (France) announced today that despite a difficult year, its 2002 results are in line with the objectives set for 2002. 1. Commercial StatusNew Aircraft Sales On the new aircraft market ATR has logged a total of 16 orders (2 ATR 42-500s and 14 ATR 72-500s). ATR was able to finalize 6 additional sales at the end of the year. One ATR 42-500 has been sold to the French Polynesian government whilst 5 ATR 72-500s have been contracted by an airline which remains undisclosed at this time.
Since the beginning of the year ATR has sold 676 aircraft (370 ATR 42s and 306 ATR 72s). New aircraft Deliveries In 2002 ATR has delivered a total of 19 aircraft (5 ATR 42-500s and 14 ATR 72-500s) to 11 airlines. No deliveries have been cancelled nor delayed in 2002. Since the beginning of the programme, ATR has delivered 652 aircraft (369 ATR 42s and 283 ATR 72s).
Second hand & Cargo aircraft business On the second hand aircraft market, ATR has achieved an exceptional year with 53 aircraft transactions (45 ATR 42s and 8 ATR 72s) including 16 cash sales.
On the cargo conversion programme, the Large Cargo Door, developed by outfitter Aeronavali has been certified. Furthermore FedEx Express confirmed its choice for the ATR 42-320 as the new platform for its domestic cargo feeder operations in North America (see FedEx/ATR press release dated January 20th). FedEx has acquired 8 ATR 42-320 with Continental Airlines. Operations & Customer Services In March 2002, ATR launched its new customer support web site. To date, more than 50% of ATR operators worldwide log on to the site regularly. This site will facilitate the start up of AEROCHAIN, an e-business site launched together with EMBRAER. ATR operators will be able to access this site by the end of 2003. In April 2002 the ATR Training Centre received the JAR 147 approval from the French GSAC (Groupement de la Sécurité de l'Aviation Civile). With this certification, the ATR Training Centre is entitled to deliver a type qualification (JAR 66 licences) to aerospace mechanics for the ATR 42 and the ATR 72 types within JAR 145 approved maintenance organisations. At the end of December ATR obtained the DOA (Design Organisation Agreement) which is a confirmation from the authorities (JAA and DGAC) of ATR's capability in terms of engineering (see ATR press release to be issued on January 23rd) 2. Financial ResultsATR will achieve in 2002 results that are well beyond its targets, thus proving the efficiency of the integrated structure, implemented in June 2001. ATR's turnover in 2002 will remain stable in comparison with 2001. 3. 2003 perspectivesATR acknowledges that 2003 should also be a difficult year for the air transport market. However ATR has set the objective to sell around 20 new aircraft and has planned to deliver an equivalent number in 2003. On the second hand market ATR hopes to achieve the same level of activity as in 2002. In February 2003 ATR will organize its eigth operators symposium which will gather over 400 delegates from all ATR operators and vendors. Furthermore ATR will continue to improve its final assembly line cycles by mid-March going from 3 to 2 months. Also in March 2003 ATR expects to obtain the ISO 9001 quality standard. 4. ATR prepares for the long termThe regional aviation has been transforming rapidly over the last 20 years and it should also be very different from today in a decade. Recognizing this and benefiting from its unique experience and customer base, ATR is launching a vast study called RAMPS (Regional Aviation Market Prospective Study) on the future of regional air transport. The aim is to identify the trends, the shape and the needs of the regional airlines in the 5-10 years to come. Regional and major airlines, vendors and aviation authorities will be associated to this work, in order to provide a wider perspective. This study should enable ATR to look at several scenarios for the years to come. A first series of results will be presented at the next Paris Air Show in June 2003.
